| when I was skinny |
I'm Lyssa, Miss Fat Girl. I've been overweight for most of my life, and obese for the passed several years. I wasnt always so plump, though. In high school, I 'grew into my weight' through a few growth spurts, as well as eating less (not necessarily healthier, but less). I went from 198 lbs to under 120. I wish I would have learned healthier habits to maintain that body, but I didnt. I began working at a Bakery and Restaurant with some AMAZING food to snack on, as well as dating (which we all know means burgers and pizza). I became a little chunky monkey, toward the end of my high school years and start college. I was on my own and cooking my own meals for the first time, which consisted of A LOT of chicken strips and honey mustard. Eventually, I moved in with a guy with the metabolism faster than a speeding bullet. I prepared both our meals, and, of course, they were the same thing. Soon, I was not only eating the same foods as him, but the same portion sizes! I was downing a whole entire pizza for one meal... him not gaining a pound (in fact, he was extremely muscular) and me piling on pounds of fat. After a break up from our nearly 6-year relationship, I was absolutely traumatized. I would stay in bed all day and watch tv. I'd only get up to grab some fast food. I was too depressed to even cook. My dogs weren't receiving the attention they deserved, and neither was my health. Before I knew it, I'd buy everything I was craving (cant decide between Taco Bell, Hardees, or McDonalds? I'd just get em all, come home, and chow down). I've gained 80 lbs to this date since our break up a year and a half ago. The weight came so fast that I literally felt pregnant. Standing for more than a few minutes at a time was so painful because of the big ol' gut I was (and still am) lugging around. All of the weight in my stomach pulls on my lower back and it hurts so bad you dont want to move (except to sit down). About 8 months ago, I had to do the thing I'm sure we'd all dread... moving back in with the parentals. I had no choice. I was unemployed and couldn't pay the rent. So, I moved back in and immediately quit eating so much fast food. I was too ashamed to let my family see just how crazy I had gotten. The times I would go with dad through a drive thru, he would stare at me when I'd order too much. I told him I was actually ordering significantly less, so it was improvement. He was shocked. Now, I rarely eat fast food. It was hard at first, but after a couple weeks, my body quit craving it as much as it used to. Now when I do eat it, half the time I think "this does NOT taste as good as I remember". I was back to homecooked meals. Unfortunately, the family eats even worse now then they used to. Mom orders fried chicken almost every week and there's always sweets in the house. In fact, until my sister recently began dating, she was baking a chocolate cake every other week. Chili dogs, pot roast with potatoes and gravy, etc. does not equal good food. However, at least I've broken my fast food addiction.
The point of this blog is to share my journey to not only weight loss, but also a healthier lifestyle. To share what does work for me, and what doesnt.
xoxo,
Miss Fat Girl
